Ten Unexpected Items to Find in a Bagging Area
- A rubber duck, bobbing serenely beside the tins,
- A lone sock, its partner lost in the maze of aisles,
- A tiny cactus, prickly and proud among the potatoes,
- A miniature kazoo, waiting to serenade the checkout queue,
- A vintage postcard of a seaside town, its corners curled,
- A half‑eaten apple, its core whispering of hurried bites,
- A ball of brightly coloured yarn, tangled like a secret,
- A solitary glove, woolly and forlorn, seeking its mate,
- A small, tinny music box that plays a jaunty tune when shaken,
- A folded paper crane, perched delicately on a bag of flour.
Each surprise a quiet reminder that even the most ordinary spaces
hold wonder, if only we pause to look.
