Belie
In the hush of twilight, a smile belies the storm,
A quiet laugh that masks a furrowed brow,
The rose’s blush belies its thorns, warm,
Yet truth, like fog, will somehow break through now.
A polished façade can belie the cracked foundation,
A whispered promise that shivers like thin ice,
We dress our doubts in genteel reputation,
While shadows linger, patient, precise.
So let us heed the subtle signs,
Where surface gleam and inner grief entwine;
For what the eye accepts as fine
May oft belie the heart’s design.
