Smash
Upon the cliff‑edge where the Atlantic sighs,
A grey‑green wall of water rises high,
Then, with a roar that splits the restless skies,
It hurls itself – a sudden, thunderous sigh.
The foam erupts in pearl‑white shards,
Each droplet catching the low sun’s glare,
A fleeting mosaic, sharp and hard,
That shatters, scatters, hangs in salty air.
From shore to stone the impact spreads,
A trembling pulse through ancient rock,
The sea, in fierce, unbridled threads,
Re‑claims its claim with every shock.
And when the surge retreats to blue,
It leaves behind a smooth, worn tray,
Where pebbles kiss the sand anew,
And quiet waits for the next smash‑filled day.
