Ode to Nylon
In looms of industry the polymer sings,
A synthetic fibre, strong and light,
Its nylon threads, like midnight’s silvery strings,
Weave through the fabric of the day and night.
From stockings that cling with a glossy sheen,
To parachutes that brave the daring sky,
It resists the wear, the tear, the keen
Fray of time, yet yields where soft fibres lie.
In rain‑coats bright, in carpets warm and thick,
In fishing lines that kiss the restless tide,
Nylon holds its colour, steadfast, quick,
A quiet marvel where ingenuity bide.
So sing, O nylon, humble yet austere,
You bind our world in resilient cheer.
