Never
In the hush of twilight, I whisper never,
A word that folds like mist over the lake,
Never to chase the sunrise that will not break,
Never to taste the salt of tears forever.
Yet never is a cage with bars of quiet doubt,
It holds the heart where hope dares not to tread,
But even in its shadow, a seed is fed,
For never can also mean “not yet, not out”.
So I learn to wear the word like a worn coat,
Threadbare but warm against the chill of doubt,
And when the night grows deep, I shout without a sound,
“Never say never” – the echo turns around.
