Thick

poetry
Thick fog rolls over the cobbled street,
Softening the glow of the gas‑lamp’s light.
The neighbour’s dog barks low, a muffled beat,
While steam curls from the pie shop, warm and bright.
In the queue for tea, the custard stands thick,
A golden veil that clings to spoon and lip.
