Decal

poetry

On the smooth expanse of a car’s bonnet,
a thin film waits—transparent, patient—
a decal, a whisper of colour,
ready to cling like a secret promise.

Peel away the backing with careful fingers,
feel the slight tug as the adhesive sighs,
then lay it down, smoothing bubbles out
with the soft press of a palm, a quiet ritual.

Now the metal bears a badge of personality,
a racing stripe, a floral motif, a motto in bold type,
each line a story, each hue a mood,
turning mundane travel into a moving gallery.

In rain or shine, the decal holds fast,
a steadfast companion on Britain’s winding roads,
reminding the driver that even the everyday
can be dressed in art, one sticky slice at a time.
