Wider

poetry
Wider than the river’s sigh,
Wider than the sky’s own blue,
Wider still the thoughts that fly—
Beyond the narrow, tried, and true.
Wider lanes of market streets,
Where cyclists weave with cautious grace,
And shoppers pause for lemon treats,
Finding space in every place.
Wider smiles that stretch across
A village green in summer’s glow,
Where children chase the wandering fox,
And elders watch the world go slow.
Wider hearts that learn to hold
More love than fear, more hope than doubt—
In every breath, a story told,
A life unfurled, a route without.
So let us seek the wider view,
Not bound by what we’ve always known—
For in the stretch of horizons new,
We find the self we’ve yet to own.
