Penny

poetry
A penny lies upon the pavement,
Small, copper‑tinged, a quiet token,
It gleams beneath the grey‑blue sky,
A whisper of the world unspoken.
In pockets it has travelled far,
From market stalls to underground,
Through rainy streets and summer sun,
Its clink a soft, familiar sound.
Though worth but one of humble pence,
It holds a weight beyond its size—
A reminder that the smallest things
Can stitch together larger ties.
So pause, pick up that modest disc,
Feel its cool, enduring edge,
And let it teach you, plain and stark,
That value lives in modest pledge.
